We all know that one guy who sneers at bipods. “Real marksmen shoot standing up,” he says. “Bench shooting is a waste of time.” With all due respect to that guy, he’s dead wrong.
To begin with, bench shooting is a good way to practice pure accuracy, without a lot of variables messing up your shot. It’s also a legitimate way to practice shooting from a deer stand. Finally, shooting with a bipod is just plain fun, whether from a bench or out in the field.
That’s why we’ve searched far and wide for the best AR-15 bipod. We’ve narrowed our list down to 9 models which we believe are the most reliable and easiest to use. Price was also a consideration, although we’ve included a few higher-priced options for people who don’t mind paying a premium to get the baddest accessory on the range.

Out of the box, it mounts on a sling stud using the dial on the bottom of the unit, but it ships with a 5-slot Picatinny rail adapter and an Allen key for installation.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t pivot, which makes it best suited for flat surfaces. It also has a limited swivel range, only a few degrees, so you’ll have to reposition it frequently if you’re shooting at multiple targets or a moving target.
Pros
- Durable finish
- Aircraft grade aluminum
- Push button extension
- Lightweight

The CVLIFE 6-9 Inch Quick Release Bipod’s main feature is the quick release tab that makes it a breeze to take on and off.
Key features
- Picatinny rail mount
- 5 length settings
- Quick release mount
The CVLIFE 6-9 Inch Quick Release Bipod has the same legs as their 360 Degree Swivel Bipod, including the push button adjustment from 6-9 inches and the anodized aluminum finish. What makes it different is the mounting hardware.
This bipod has a Picatinny rail mount that attaches and releases with a fat plastic tab. This makes it easy not just to mount and unmount, but also to swap from one gun to another. If you take multiple guns to the range, but don’t want to spend a small fortune on multiple bipods, this is a winning feature.
What the Quick Release gives you in ease of installation, it takes away in ease of use. It doesn’t pivot to compensate for uneven ground, but, worse yet, it also doesn’t swivel from side to side. This makes it difficult to set up a shot on a moving target, so consider it a range bipod, not a hunting bipod.
Pros
- Easy to mount and unmount
- Durable finish
- Push button extension
Cons
- Does not swivel
- Does not pivot
This is a serviceable bipod that’s easy to mount and unmount.

The CVLIFE 6-9 Inch Carbon Fiber Bipod is both lighter and tougher than other CVLIFE bipods.
Key features
- Sling stud and Picatinny rail mounts
- 5 length settings
- Carbon fiber construction
- Built-in sling attach mount
We swear, this is the last CVLIFE bipod you’re going to see. Their line of products is a bit like the AR-15. They’re all similar, but the differences are important. As for what’s the same, that’s simple. The legs have 5 length settings between 6 and 9 inches, and are adjusted using a push-button. This version mounts to a sling stud out of the box and comes with a Picatinny rail mount and Allen key.
Now for the differences. The legs on this bipod are engineered from carbon fiber, which is both stronger than steel and lighter than aluminum. The result is a lightweight, 10-ounce bipod that’s as tough as anything else in the CVLIFE lineup.
What this bipod does not do is pivot to compensate for uneven ground. More importantly, it doesn’t swivel at all, which makes it a pain to use on a moving target. It also costs more than other CVLIFE bipods, but that’s understandable considering the carbon fiber frame.
Pros
- Lightweight
- Durable
- Push button legs
Cons
- Does not swivel or pivot
- Costs more than other CVLIFE 6-9 inch bipods

It has a mounting knob that allows you to attach and remove it in mere seconds, so you can swap it between your AR-15 and your 10/22 without even leaving the shooting bench. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with a Picatinny rail mount, so you’ll need to buy one separately if your AR has a rail.

Mounting to a sling swivel is extremely fast, thanks to the quick attach knob on the bottom of the base.
Since it sits up so high, this bipod is perfect for using a high capacity. It swivels 360 degrees, making it useful for hunting. However, it does not pivot to compensate for uneven ground.

This bipod is engineered from carbon fiber instead of metal. As a result, it’s both lightweight – 10 ounces – and extremely durable. The only thing we didn’t like about it is that it does not swivel or pivot, making it strictly a shooting range bipod.

Key features
- Picatinny rail mount
- Infinite adjustability
- Tool-free assembly
If you want a bipod that’s tougher than a Mack truck, the GG&G Heavy Duty Bipod is where it’s at. This bipod adjusts from 7 7/8 inches up to 10 ½ inches. It uses a thumb screw for adjustment, which is less convenient than a simple push button. However, it’s more secure, and also doesn’t have any set intervals. You can literally make the legs exactly the right length for comfort.
This anodized aluminum bipod is extremely durable. The Picatinny rail mount can be released with a thumb lever, which means it takes only seconds to mount it or unmount it from your AR. Because it’s meant to be as stable as possible, it doesn’t pivot or swivel, which is disappointing on an otherwise top-tier bipod.
The GG&G is made in the USA and comes with a lifetime manufacturer’s warranty. It’s also expensive, which is to be expected when you’re buying the best.
Pros
- Extreme durability and stability
- Quick mounting and unmounting
- Made in the USA
- Lifetime manufacturer’s warranty
Cons
- Expensive
- Screw operated legs
- Does not pivot or swivel
This is the most durable bipod on the market, bar none.
Bottom Line
As you probably noticed, with the exception of the premium-priced models, most of these bipods are remarkably similar. Truth be told, the bipod market has been pretty uniform in recent years. This isn’t a bad thing. Manufacturers have found designs that work well, and are sticking with them.
The main challenge when choosing an AR-15 bipod is finding one that will mount to your particular rifle. Most of the bipods we listed mount on a Picatinny rail, but we made sure to include a couple of swivel mount options and a Magpul option to cover all of our bases. Before you make any purchase, you’ll want to be sure that your bipod has the correct mounting hardware.
