Features

  • Offers high performance in diverse lakebeds and river bottoms
  • Effective in sand, rocks, mud, weeds, currents and more
  • Unique release bar makes reclaiming the anchor easy
  • Vinyl-coated for protection and longevity
  • Available in three sizes: 14 lbs. (boats up to 18’), 18 lbs. (boats up to 24’), and 25 lbs. (boats up to 32’)

This anchor is long-lasting and effective for boats of most sizes, so we’d recommend it for just about anyone.

Key Features

  • 18 pounds
  • Spike shape
  • Comes in three sizes

This anchor comes in three different sizes to give you the opportunity to choose which works best for your boat. It has a special release bar that makes pulling the anchor up and reclaiming it into your boat easier than with other anchors. Most important is the vinyl coating that prevents rust damage from piling up over time, increasing the anchor’s longevity.

Despite its effectiveness, this vinyl coating does wear off over time, so you’ll eventually need to replace it yourself or purchase a new anchor when it starts to rust. Still, so long as the vinyl coating is in place this is one of the best anchors for boats of variable sizes and for taking your boat into different lakes or rivers with varying lakebeds.

Pros

  • Works in most lakebeds or river bottoms
  • Vinyl coating improves longevity and protection
  • Release bar makes drawing the anchor up easier than ever

Cons

  • Vinyl coating does come off over time

The anchor’s ability to work on most lakebeds means it’s a great choice if you don’t stick to the same lake or river all the time.

Features

  • 3 1/3 pound 4 fluke folding anchor will hold in mud, sand, gravel and rock
  • Designed for boats, sailboats, personal watercraft, inflatable boats, canoes, and float tubes
  • Fits under most boat seats, in PWC storage compartments, or in PWC storage canisters
  • 25 foot long marine grade rope
  • Durable nylon storage case is padded for added protection

This anchor system is great for smaller watercraft and single-person expeditions.

Key Features

  • Comes with 25-foot long Marine-grade rope
  • 3- and 1/3-pound weight
  • Designed for smaller boats and inflatable watercraft

Those who spend their time on calm lakes with durable waterbeds will enjoy this anchor system greatly. It comes with a rope of considerable length and a durable nylon case for added protection. The anchor itself is very easy to handle and settled nicely in most beds of rock or silt.

It’s designed for smaller boats or personal watercraft due to its lightweight. However, this is also its downside, as it’s not heavy enough to keep your boat secure if the silt underwater is overly loose. It can do a fantastic job with rockier lake beds, however. Weedy lake beds can work as well, though results will be hit or miss depending on how thick those weeds are.

Pros

  • Fits under most boat seats for storage compartments
  • Comes with a nylon storage case
  • Very easy to handle and lift
  • Very affordable

Cons

  • Isn’t the best for loose mud or silt

This anchor is easy to store and carry to and from your boat, making it a great choice for smaller folks.

Features

  • Country Of Origin : China
  • The Package Height Of The Product Is 0.3 Inches
  • The Package Length Of The Product Is 5.75 Inches
  • The Package Width Of The Package Is 3.75 Inches

This anchor is one of the ideal choices for smaller boats due to its similarly small size and convenient weight.

Key Features

  • 5 pounds
  • Durable metal material
  • Comes in four sizes

This small boat anchor for lake fishing is a perfect choice if you don’t want to take a ton of gear on your next expedition. It’s extremely easy to fold or unfold as you prefer, and it operates the exact same regardless of which configuration you choose. The scooped shape of each of the anchor fins ensures that it’ll do a good job of settling into the waterbed no matter what.

It is a bit light weight for larger vessels, so we would recommend purchasing something a lot bigger if you have a chunkier boat. That being said, it’s a great choice for single rider craft or dinghies.

Pros

  • Folds up for easy storage
  • Can be used in either the folded or unfolded configuration

Cons

  • Small size and weight make it suitable only for small boats

It’s super portable and can fold up or extend depending on your needs; what’s not to like about this anchor?

Features

  • 25 lb. anchor designed to work with anchor winches like Minn Kota Deckhand, Power Winch, and Anchor Mate; can also be used without an anchor winch
  • Perfect for use on pontoons, fishing boats, and runabouts
  • Designed for precise anchor positioning
  • Provides hold in lakes and rivers; mud, sand, or rocks, no chain needed
  • Excellent hold with 45° angled flukes, wide base, and split/flat flukes for steady, deep digging action

This versatile boat anchor is great for practically every type of lakebed, provided you have the room to store it.

Key Features

  • 20 pounds
  • Vinyl coating
  • Works on all types of lakebeds
  • Comes in 4 sizes

Although the title suggests that this anchor is only meant for use with river fishing, it’s a fine choice for lakebed anchoring as well. It uses specially designed flukes to tangle itself on weeds and rocks, and a higher weight to sink into softer sand at the same time. It’s covered with a special vinyl coating that can protect it from both rust damage and UV damage from the sun.

It’s a little tricky to store since the flukes don’t fold up in any way. You’ll need a special spot on your boat deck to store it, as a result. But overall, we think this is a fine anchor if you anchor your boat to many different lakebeds, or if you’re not certain what type of lakebed awaits you at a new fishing spot.

Pros

  • Vinyl coating is both rust and UV resistant
  • Fluke shape and weight both combine for excellent results
  • Large loop for hooking/roping

Cons

  • Doesn’t fold up for storage

Although it’s a little clunky on your boat deck, it’s a fantastic anchor once you get it into the water.

Features

  • 20 lb. river anchor
  • Designed to use a combination of weight and flukes for hold
  • For use in lakes and rivers with fast currents and drift areas
  • Works on hard, muddy, rocky, weedy or grassy bottoms
  • Vinyl coating protects boat surfaces

This hydrodynamic anchor is perfect for quickly securing your boat to any lakebed.

Key Features

  • 25 pounds
  • Can work with certain anchor winches
  • No chain needed

This anchor features a unique hydrodynamic design that ensures that it will plummet straight down as soon as you set it in the water. This allows it to reach the lakebed quickly, and it can secure itself to any type of lakebed, whether it’s rocky, sandy, or filled with weeds. It doesn’t need a chain and can be combined with an anchor winch if you so choose.

Because of the shape of its flukes, it’s really good at digging into any lakebed and keeping boats of variable sizes secure, even in rougher currents. It is a little trickier to use due to its lack of rope, however. If you can get the hang of it, there are few anchors more versatile.

Pros

  • Ideal for all types of lakebeds
  • Perfect for precise anchor positioning
  • Drops straight into the water due to hydrodynamic design

Cons

  • Lack of rope can make retrieval tricky

Its intuitive technical design helps it stand out among anchors of more generic styles.

Features

  • 12 lb. design is perfect for boats, pontoons, sailboats or houseboats up to 20' in fresh water
  • Designed to set fast, hold tight, and come up clean
  • Exceptional hold in rough or windy conditions
  • No chain needed
  • One-year warranty

This boat anchor is a great choice if you frequently fish on lakes with rougher currents and conditions.

Key Features

  • 15 pounds
  • 1-year warranty
  • No chain needed

This anchor has an unusual style compared to most other boat anchors for lakes. Instead of settling on the bottom of the lake bed and using flaps or flukes on the side to sink into the dirt and ground, large paddles extending toward the back of the anchor dig into the ground for a secure hold. This is excellent and rough or windy conditions and your boat will be more secure than if you used a traditional anchor.

However, getting used to this unique anchor style does require a little practice. You’ll have to learn to use it without a chain, and its effective depth isn’t very long, either.

Pros

  • Very good hold in windy conditions
  • Sets up quickly
  • Comes up without a lot of debris

Cons

  • Different style is difficult to get used to

With a little practice, this anchor could become your favorite and replace regular anchors altogether.

Features

  • Made from corrosion resistant galvanized steel
  • Locking ring locks the anchor in either open or closed position
  • Great for kayaks, dinghies, canoes and other small craft.

It’s a durable, hooked anchor that’s perfect for rocky lakebeds.

Key Features

  • Made from galvanized steel
  • Has locking ring to secure the anchor in open or closed positions
  • Best used for rocky lake bottoms
  • 6 weights available

This galvanized steel anchor is resistant to corrosive damage and has a special locking ring. The ring ensures that the anchor will remain either be closed or open position regardless of turbulence or shifting in the water. Since it comes in up to six sizes, you can choose the weight that works best for your boat. Its hooked fins give it an advantage when it comes to securing your vessel on lakes with Rocky bottoms.

Be careful when preparing this anchor on your boat deck, however, as the shark fins which give it its value are also excellent at damaging your boots. If you can handle it carefully, it’s an excellent anchor for arguably the most difficult type of lakebed to secure your boat to.

Pros

  • Very durable even on rocky lakebeds
  • Stays in locked position consistently
  • Resists corrosive damage
  • Perfect for boats of all sizes
  • Hooked fins are ideal for sticking under boulders

Cons

  • Sharp edges make it hazardous to handle
  • Not as good for soft bottoms

  • 20 pounds
  • black vinyl coated

The vinyl coating that covers its entire surface area protects it from rust damage and extends its lifespan.

The only downside is its poor adaptation to rocky lakebeds. It can sometimes scoop up enough gravel to hold your boat in place, but we wouldn’t count on this happening with regularity.

Pros

  • Resistant to corrosive damage due to coating
  • Can sufficiently hold smaller boats even in softer lakebeds
  • Easy to attack and drop
  • Safe on boat decks

Cons

  • Not great for rocky lakebeds

For lighter boats that float atop lakes with soft lakebeds, there are few anchors better than this one.

Features

  • Country Of Origin: China
  • Package Height Of The Item Is 3.5"
  • Package Length Of The Item Is 7.9"
  • Package Width Of The Item Is 5.5"

This is a great anchor if you spend most of your time in shallower water and rarely anchor yourself in the deeper parts of your favorite lake.

Key Features

  • Comes with a 6-foot adjustable line
  • Can carry up to 35 pounds of rocks or sand
  • Comes with own buoy

This sand anchor can carry up to 35 pounds of either sand or rocks, and it comes with its own six-foot adjustable line. When it comes to quick lowering or retrieving, this line’s snappy adjusting and handling are sure to impress you.

Its yellow color makes it easy to spot and it has an oversized hook so securing into your boat is quick and easy. The buoy is attached right on the adjustable line and bobs effectively on lake surfaces.

Unlike other sand anchors we’ve looked at, this one can’t be used as a bag for your equipment. It’s purely meant as a shallow water anchor or lighter boats, and we would still caution you against using it against lakebeds that are known to have extremely sharp rocks on the bottom.

Pros

  • The oversized snap hook makes securing the anchor easy
  • Durable design protects it from rocky lakebeds
  • The yellow color makes it easy to spot

Cons

  • Can’t be used as a bag for your equipment

As a shallow-water sand anchor, it’s easy to use and tough enough to survive some gravelly lakebeds.

Bottom Line

All in all, the best boat anchor for your needs depends on what type of lakebed your favorite fishing spot has and how large your vessel is. Whenever possible, try to find an anchor that has some kind of protective coating. You’ll get more bang for your buck if you purchase an anchor that will last a long time rather than rust away after a few months.

Regardless of your anchor requirements, we hope you found a suitable anchor on our list and wish you luck on your next trip out on the water. Visit the OutdoorWorld Reviews homepage for more expert reviews and helpful tips including how to anchor a pontoon boat!
