If you’re of the cold-blooded persuasion, you may need to bundle up like that kid from A Christmas Story when the weather gets cold. And while big down coats are certainly warm, they aren’t always practical. If you can’t put your arms down, you can’t move freely for work, or for athletic activities like skiing.

A self-heating jacket is a great solution to this problem. Not only will it keep you warm even in very cold weather, but it will allow for plenty of flexibility, which is why we searched for the best-heated jacket available online.

We’ve looked at both women’s and men’s heated jackets, to find the warmest, most comfortable options on the market. We’ve also looked at popular brands like DeWalt and Milwaukee, so you can use your existing power tool batteries for power. And, of course, we’ve looked for the best bargains.

The Ororo Men’s Soft Shell Heated Jacket is a lightweight heated jacket with a soft fleece liner and a waterproof polyester shell. This makes it well-suited for the crisp, rainy weather of spring or fall. However, the heating elements aren’t powerful enough to keep you warm in the dead of winter.

On the other hand, Ororo offers up to 10 hours of battery life, which is the best we’ve seen. The fleece liner is comfortable to slip into, and the hood can be removed when you don’t need it. There’s also a USB charging port on the battery, so you can keep your phone charged while you’re on the go.

Pros

  • Superior battery life
  • Comfortable fit
  • Can be used to charge your cell phone
  • 12-month manufacturer’s warranty

Cons

  • Limited heating capacity

This heated jacket is an ideal choice for fall or spring wear, or as a heated layer under a heavier coat.

The only thing we didn’t like is the battery pocket, which is located in your back of all places and makes it awkward to sit down or lay on your back. On the other hand, the LED remote is a really nice feature. You can even use it to set your jacket to pre-heat while you’re still indoors.

In most respects, this jacket is identical to the Ororo men’s jacket we already reviewed. The DeWalt Camo Hoodie is warm enough to keep you comfortable all day long.

Key Features

  • Camo polyester twill shell with smooth polyester liner
  • Up to 5.5 hours of battery life
  • 4 heating zones
  • 3 heating levels
  • Water and wind resistant
  • 4 multi function pockets
  • Pre-heat mode
  • Built-in USB charging port

With the Realtree camo pattern, this hoodie is a great choice for hunting. It’s also thick and heavy enough to keep you warm around freezing temperatures, so it will be useful all through deer season. Our only complaint was a minor one: the battery socket isn’t very tight, and the battery sometimes comes loose while they’re in use.

Pros

  • Very warm
  • Easy to use
  • Can be used to charge your phone
  • Battery compatible with DeWalt 20V power tools
  • 12-month manufacturer’s warranty

Cons

  • Battery disconnects easily

This heated Hoodie is an ideal choice for hunting.

Bottom Line

From heavy, multi-zone coats to lightweight, minimalist hoodies, we’ve found a wide variety of heated jackets. Whether you’re working or playing, hiking or hunting, at least one of these jackets will be the right choice for you. That said, depending on what you already own, the brand is likely to be your most important factor.

If you already own 12-volt Makita power tools, for example, then you already own the batteries and charger you need for their heated coat. On the other hand, if you don’t already own a power tool set, a jacket that includes batteries is going to be a much better deal, since buying a set of batteries can nearly double the price of your coat.

We hope our heated jacket reviews have helped to point you in the right direction. At the very least, you’re a more educated customer and can make your choice with confidence. Stay warm out there!
