Zeroing in a new sight can be a frustrating experience. Unless it’s already reasonably accurate out of the box – which would only happen by coincidence – you need to start with the target just a few yards away in order to even hit the 10-ring, never mind the bullseye. You’ll then need to keep moving the target back, fine-tuning your scope as you go until you’re slagging dimes at a hundred yards or more.
One way to make the process far less painful is to use a boresight laser, which is why we’ve put together a list of the best laser bore sights. In making our selections, we’ve tried to find at least one sight for every common caliber, and several that will fit the most popular calibers, like .223 Remington and 9mm. We’ve also tried to cover a broad price range, so there will be something here that fits every budget.

The Wheeler Professional Laser Bore Sighter is available with a red or a green laser. They’re both a bit pricey, and the green is pricier, but we recommend going with the green version regardless. It’s visible at much longer ranges, up to 100 yards.
This sight has a magnetic mount, which sticks to the end of your barrel. Without the need for a barrel rod, you won’t have to worry about scratching the chrome lining. It also fits on virtually any barrel, making it one of the few bore sights that can be used to zero in a pistol.
It’s not quite as accurate as some other models since you need to center it manually. But it will still get you close enough to zero your scope with two shots.
Pros
- Long-range visibility
- Won’t scratch the inside of your barrel
- Rugged design
- Includes a molded plastic storage case
Cons
- Not self-centering
- Pricey

- FITS: .22-.50 caliber firearms
The LaserLyte Kit’s barrel rod is only 3 inches long, making it suitable for most pistols.
Key Features
- Fits .22 to .50 caliber rifles, .12-.20 gauge shotguns, and most pistols
- Red class III laser
- Aluminum barrel rod with plastic bore adapters
- Takes 3 BAT-393 batteries (included)
The LaserLyte Universal Laser Bore Sight Kit is a barebones, easy-to-use bore sight that fits most rifles, shotguns, and pistols. The aluminum barrel rod has a flared design. Simply press it into your barrel until it fits snugly, and zero in your scope. For shotguns, you can use the plastic bore adapters to get a snug fit.
The downside of this barebones design is that the aluminum rod can potentially scratch the chrome lining on your barrel. The laser is also fairly weak, only useful out to about 25 yards in daylight. The batteries are also an unusual size, making them difficult to find in local stores. That said, this is an affordable kit, it takes just seconds to set up, and it’s short enough to accommodate pistol barrels 3 inches and longer.
Pros
- Suitable for most pistols
- Easy to use
- Affordable
Cons
- Hard to replace batteries
- Limited range
- Can potentially scratch your barrel
This bore sight takes only seconds to set up and comes at a reasonable price.

Bottom Line
In our search for the best laser bore sighter, we’ve covered a lot of ground. We’ve looked at green bore sights, which are highly visible at long distances. We’ve also looked at red bore sights, which tend to cost less in units that have comparable accuracy to their green counterparts. Ultimately, the best bore sight is going to be the one that works best for your gun and your budget.
One thing we haven’t mentioned is that a boresight is only going to be pinpoint accurate at point-blank range. Beyond that, they can’t account for the ballistic drop. So you can’t just line up your scope with your boresight at 100 or 200 yards and call it a day. Use the boresight as a benchmark, but follow up by firing live ammunition at the target to account for sighting at different ranges.
