Best Waterproof Wallet

Whether you’re planning your next outdoors vacation or need the best waterproof wallet while doing some outdoor gardening, here are 12 options to choose from. Of course some wallets will usually keep excess water moisture off of your credit cards and money, having a waterproof wallet case will secure them better.

The last thing you want to do is end up with dollar bills sticking together, damaging the magnetic clip on the back(s) of your credit card(s) and/or ruining the ink on your receipt(s). This could easily happen while camping, at amusement parks and/or at water parks. You may even need a waterproof wallet for the one day you’re unlucky enough to forget your umbrella on a stormy weather day.

If you’re worried about the kind of wallet that looks like a plastic toy, no worries. Waterproof wallets have gotten far more stylish these days. One major upside to carrying these water-resistant wallets and bags, with only a few cards or bills, is it also makes you reevaluate what you actually need to carry.

For women who tend to shove everything, they can think of in their purses and people who carry far too much cash in their wallets, cases like these should make you pack lighter, smarter, and safer. While credit cards and IDs can be replaced, cash has a finder’s keeper motto. Generally speaking, stay away from carrying cash when you’re in a temperamental weather area anyway.

Key Features

  • High-quality silicone material
  • Fireproof zipper
  • Available in black and grey

Explosion proof and resistant against smoke, this small bag (10.6 x 6.7 inches) has flame retardant thread. It’s also available in large (13.4 x 9.4 inches). This small fireproof safe pouch keeps your passports, licenses, USB disks and CDs deeds, certificates, coins, cash, letters, photos, marriage certificates and money safe. If you’re thinking of paying for a Social Security box, there’s nothing wrong with that either. But why pay a rental fee when this bag can do the same thing?

  • Zipper closure protection

Cons

  • One user tested the bag out on a fire pit, and it immediately burned
  • Another user lit folded paper in the bag; the bag did not burn but all the contents inside did

Customer service should respond within 24 hours. It’s also covered by a replacement or refund option.

Key Information

Should You Test the Bag First?

Of the 12 options above, is this the waterproof wallet for you? It depends. Many users said it worked as a waterproof wallet as those that didn’t. But here’s the problem. Without seeing the activity level of each user, it’s difficult to narrow down what went wrong for some and not others. There are a few guesses though.

If you’re a swimmer, you’re already aware of one common problem; just about every swimmer has had a swimming cap that kept her hair dry during one swimming session and drenched the next. What’s usually the source of the complaint? Fidgeting with the cap. When a rubber sealant (or other waterproof material) is clamped together and sealed, it’s not supposed to be constantly exposed to actions that would decrease performance.

Try to avoid going in and out of your wallet during swimming sessions, wet weather and similar conditions. If this tip doesn’t work, contact the sellers to clarify what went wrong. Of course know the return and/or exchange policy ahead of time. But hopefully your waterproof option is a success.

And if you happened to get a fireproof, waterproof wallet, it couldn’t hurt to test it first. Honest sellers will be open to you testing the bag out for emergency purposes first. As extreme as it may seem to purposely dump your brand new bag into a bathtub or shower, or to set the contents inside on fire, that’s the entire purpose of the bag. Before it was sold to the public, these kinds of tests should have happened already.

For your wallet or bag, this should just be one of many prior tests. That is, if it was tested at all. The last thing you want to do is wait until you have irreplaceable documents, folders or paper that get damaged in water (or fire). Once you’re comfortable with the results, travel with more ease, knowing this is a wallet (or ID bag) that you can trust.

Bottom Line

Do you really need a waterproof or fireproof bag at all? That’s the first thing you should ask before even buying it. Spend money on products and perks that you would actually want and/or need. Were any of the 12 items what you were looking for? Hopefully they were.

As with anything sold online, there will be satisfied and unsatisfied customers. Pay attention to what users were doing to result in one-star reviews as much as you would five-star reviews. Pay the most attention to activities that fit your purpose for getting the bag in the first place.

Anytime you purchase a product that requires damage control, know the warranty policy ahead of time. If the refund and/or replacement agreement are not on the online posting, ask the seller beforehand so you understand what your options are.  This way you can buy the product with confidence and know you’re getting your money’s worth.
